Baseball Sweeps RV Georgetown in Day One of Series

(GEORGETOWN, Ky.)-Thomas More University's baseball team swept RV Georgetown (Ky.) in their first two games of their series on Thursday (March 30), 5-4 in game one and 3-1 in game two. The Saints overall record improves to 23-11 and 11-5 in conference.

How they scored

Game 1: Thomas More 5-4
  • Georgetown scored two runs in the bottom of the third inning (0-2).
  • In the top of the sixth inning, sophomore Ben Duncan (Hilliard, Ohio/Hilliard Bradley) scored on a fielder's choice hit by graduate student Bailey Martin (Independence, Ky./Simon Kenton) for the Saints first run of the game (1-2). Senior Jacob Caruso (Rootstown, Ohio/Rootstown) singled up the middle to sent in Bailey Martin to tie the game up at 2-2. Sophomore Brennan Martin (Cincinnati, Ohio/Elder) would step up and double to center field to score senior Noah Weingartner (Cincinnati, Ohio, La Salle) and first year Jeremy Ward (Cincinnati, Ohio/Elder) to give the Saints the go ahead lead (4-2).
  • Georgetown scored two runs in the bottom of the sixth to tie the game back up at 4-4.
  • In the top of the seventh, sophomore Gavin Vogelgesang (Cincinnati, Ohio/St. Xavier) singled through the right side to send sophomore AJ Enginger (Hamilton, Ohio/Badin) to help the Saints regain the lead once again (5-4).
Game 2: Thomas More 3-1
  • In the top of the first inning, Gavin Pearson singled up the middle to score Gavin Vogelgesang to put the Saints on the board 1-0.
  • Georgetown scored one run in the bottom of the fourth inning to tie the game up at 1-1.
  • Jacob Caruso singled to left field to send in Bailey Martin in the top of the sixth inning to help the Saints regain the lead (2-1). Junior Brady Baldock (Burlington, Ky./St. Henry) would reach on a fielder's choice to score Derek Atwood to extend the Saints lead to 3-1.

Game 1: 
  • Junior Mychal Grogan (Cincinnati, Ohio/Elder) pitched 5.2 innings, giving up four runs with three earned off of 11 hits, and struck out one.
  • Graduate student Justin Bierbaum (Bridgetown, Ohio/Elder) pitched 1.1 innings, giving up no runs and no hits.
Game 2:
  • Sophomore Austin Dennis (Cincinnati, Ohio/Oak Hills) pitched eight innings, giving up one earned run off of three hits, and struck out seven.
  • Junior Landen Scott (Independence, Ky./Simon Kenton) pitched one inning, giving up no runs off of one hit, and struck out one.
