Saints Drop Regular Season Finale At Missouri S&T

(ROLLA, Mo.) – The Thomas More University men's volleyball team lost their final regular season match this afternoon at Missouri S&T, 3-1 (25-20, 20-25, 25-17, 25-18). The Saints finish the regular season at 12-12 overall.

  • The Saints fell behind 23-15 in the first set before trying to make a late push.
  • They used a 5-1 run to cut it to four at 24-20.
  • Senior Jacob Wehrman (Milford, Ohio/Milford) had two kills during the flurry.
  • The Miners would get the next point and go ahead 1-0.
  • Thomas More went ahead 8-3 in set two.
  • The Miners made seven errors for the first seven Saints points before a Dominic Rossi (Pittsburgh, Pa./Shaler) kill gave them their eighth point.
  • The Miners would claw their way back and make it a 20-19 set.
  • A key 3-0 Saints rally put them up by four and would eventually lead to a Saints set win to tie the match.
  • Caleb Lipscomb (Cincinnati, Ohio/Walnut Hills/St. Francis Brooklyn College) had two kills during the 3-0 push.
  • The third set was tied at 5-5.
  • The Miners then used a huge 13-4 run to take an 18-9 lead.
  • This would continue as they took the set and a 2-1 lead.
  • The final set was all square at 14-14.
  • However, the Miners took over and ended the match on an 11-4 run to win 3-1.

  • Rossi led Thomas More with 10 kills.
  • Noah Smith-Trondle (Cincinnati, Ohio/Walnut Hills) led the Saints with 12 assists while Conner Young (Cincinnati, Ohio/Princeton) added 11.
  • Landon Tackett (Pickerington, Ohio/Pickerington Central) led the team with five digs.
  • Will Busken (Cincinnati, Ohio/Elder) led the team with three blocks (one solo, two assists).

 

Thomas More is the No. 3 seed in the upcoming Mid-South Conference tournament in Bowling Green, Kentucky. They will play in the quarterfinals against the Midway University Eagles on March 31st at 12:30 p.m. Eastern time. They beat the Eagles 3-1 in both matchups this season.
