(FLORENCE, Ky.) – The Thomas More University baseball team came back from being down 7-1 to earn their eighth victory of the season, an 11-7 win over the Goshen College Maple Leafs. They are now 8-7 this season.
- The Saints struck first on a Bailey Martin (Independence, Ky./Simon Kenton) single up the middle in the bottom of the first to put them up 1-0.
- The Maple Leafs would proceed to score seven runs over the following three innings to take a 7-1 advantage into the fifth.
- Thomas More would strike back with a six-run bottom of the sixth inning to tie the game at 7-7.
- Jacob Caruso (Rootstown, Ohio/Rootstown) began the rally with a three-run homerun to left center field after Brennan Martin (Cincinnati, Ohio/Elder) walked and Derek Atwood (Burlington, Ky./Conner) was hit by a pitch to set him up.
- The Saints would take advantage of a pair of costly Goshen errors that allowed them to score three unearned runs to tie the game at 7-7.
- Gavin Vogelgesang (Cincinnati, Ohio/St. Xavier) singled through the left side to bring in Brady Baldock (Burlington, Ky./St. Henry), who had reached on an error and made it 7-5.
- The Maple Leafs made an error that allowed it to be 7-6, before a Bailey Martin sacrifice fly tied the game.
- A Ben Duncan (Hilliard, Ohio/Hilliard Bradley) triple down the left field line brought in the two go-ahead runs in the seventh, before a wild pitch brought Duncan in to make it 10-7.
- AJ Enginger (Hamilton, Ohio/Badin) hit a double to left field in the eighth inning for an insurance RBI to make it 11-7.
- Caruso, Duncan, and Bailey Martin all tied for the team-lead with two hits.
- Caruso led the team with three RBI, while Bailey Martin and Duncan had two RBI a piece.
- Hunter Nantz (London, Ky./North Laurel) allowed four runs (three earned) over two innings, striking out three.
- Jack Perdue (Louisville, Ky./Christian Academy) allowed three runs in an inning and two thirds.
- Zach Dugan (Cincinnati, Ohio/Elder) and Kellen Sandhas (Cincinnati, Ohio/Elder) both shut the door on the Maple Leaf offense, striking out nine combined hitters (Dugan – 4, Sandhas – 5) over 4.1 innings of one-hit shutout baseball.
- Justin Bierbaum (Bridgetown, Ohio/La Salle) finished the game with a shutout inning in the ninth.
- Sandhas earned his second win of the season.
- The Saints struck out a season-high 12 batters in the win.
Thomas More returns to Mid-South Conference play Friday afternoon with one game at Thomas More Stadium against Bethel University (Tenn.) at 2:00 p.m. They will then play a doubleheader against the Wildcats Saturday at 12:00 p.m. and 3:00 p.m.
