(CRESTVIEW HILLS, KY.) - The women's lacrosse program at Thomas More opened the 2023 season with a 15-7 loss to Lake Erie on Friday (February 17th) afternoon. First year Meg Pierani (Bright, Ind. / Mercy McAuley) tallied 3 goals for in her first game as a Saint. The Saints move to (0-1) on the season.
- Lake Erie scored to make it 1-0 with 12:29 in the first quarter.
- Meg Pierani scored an unassisted goal to tie the game at 1 with 10:45 to go in the first quarter.
- Junior Mckenzie Mobley (Harrison, Ohio / Harrison) found the back of the net off a pass from Meg Pierani to give Thomas More a 2-1 lead.
- With 2:48 to go in the quarter Lake Erie would tie it up at 2.
- Mckenzie Mobley scored an unassisted goal to give the Saints a 3-2 lead at the start of the 2nd quarter.
- Lake Erie would go on to score 3 goals before the end of the half to take a 5-3 lead.
- Lake Erie scored 6 goals in the third quarter to make it an 11 to 3 game after three quarters.
- Lake Erie scored 2 goals to push the lead to 10 at the start of the 4th.
- Meg Pierani scored back to back goals in under a minute to make the score 13 to 5 with 5:40 to play.
- First year Lexi Williams (Cincinnati, Ohio / Oak Hills) scored her first career goal with 5:11 to go and makes the score 13 to 6.
- Lake Erie scored 2 more goals to make it 15-6 with 2:54 to go.
- Junior Kendra Yurt (Louisviile, Ky. / Mercy) scored with 1:57 to go to make it 15 to 7.
- Junior Madi Carle (Cincinnati, Ohio / Mercy McAuley) led the team with 5 caused turnovers which makes her the career leader in program history in caused turnovers with 55. She also led the team with 4 ground balls.
- Meg Pierani gets the hat trick with 3 goals. She also got an assist, 2 ground balls and a caused turnover.
- Mckenzie Mobley scored twice and also recorded a ground ball.
- Kendra Yurt and Lexi Williams each scored a goal.
- Junior Dani Carle (Cincinnati, Ohio / Mercy McAuley) recorded 3 ground balls and 2 caused turnovers.
- Senior Jaya Jenson (Metairie, La. / Cabrini) recorded 7 saves while in goal for the Saints.
Women's lacrosse return to action on Wednesday (February 22nd) as they travel to Adrian, Michigan to take on the Saints of Siena Heights. Game set to start at 4 p.m. ET.
