(FRANKFORT, Ky.) – The Thomas More University men's volleyball team won their sixth straight match Friday night, a 3-0 (25-14, 25-21, 25-15) sweep of the Kentucky State University Thorobreds. This is their second sweep of Kentucky State this season. The Saints are 6-1 overall.
- Thomas More jumped out to a 9-3 lead in set one.
- Senior Cameron Ware (Pearland, Texas/Turner/Cincinnati Christian University) had three kills at this point in the set.
- The Thorobreds would cut into the lead slightly at 18-13, but Thomas More put them away from there with a 7-1 run to take a 1-0 match lead.
- Thomas More hit .500 in the first set.
- The Saints took a commanding 19-11 lead in the second set.
- However, an 8-2 Kentucky State rally cut it to 21-19 and put some pressure on the Saints.
- The Saints rebounded though, as a pair of Ben Albers (Delhi, Ohio/Elder) kills down the stretch helped give them a 2-0 match lead.
- The Saints took a 16-7 lead in the final set, with a trio of Braden Hicks (Dayton, Ohio/Kettering Fairmont) kills leading the way.
- The Thorobreds got the lead down to four at 18-14, but Thomas More would take it from there.
- They ended the match on a 7-1 run to win 3-0.
- Ware led the team with nine kills on 14 attempts.
- Landon Tackett (Pickerington, Ohio/Pickerington Central), Conner Young (Cincinnati, Ohio/Princeton), and Eli Chambers (Eagle Rock, Calif./Eagle Rock/Santa Monica College) all had double-digit assists.
- Tackett had 16, Young had 12, and Chambers had 11.
- Sophomore Matt Gagnon (Cincinnati, Ohio/ La Salle) led the team with seven digs.
- Thomas More had 10 block assists, their second match this season with 10 or more.
- They hit .353 as a team, a season-best.
The Saints return home to the Connor Convocation Center tomorrow afternoon, taking on Cumberland University (Tenn.) at 1:00 p.m.
They defeated the Phoenix, 3-2, in the Mid-South Conference tournament in their latest matchup on Mar. 31, 2022.
