(MIDWAY, Ky.)-The Thomas More University Saints men's wrestling team traveled to Midway, Kentucky to take on 3 teams in a quad match this Saturday. They faced the Kentucky Wesleyan College Panthers, Brewton-Parker College Baron, and the Midway University Eagles.
Â
In their first dual, the Saints took on Kentucky Wesleyan. They picked up 4 falls (
Cole Thomas,
Kailan Keith, Ryan Draguhn, and
Daulton Mayer), a technical fall (
Jahmon Spiller), and a major decision (
Shay Horton), winning 6 out of the 7 matches wrestled (133 double forfeits, 149 forfeits by the Panthers, and 174 forfeits by the Panthers). The Saints cruised by for their first team dual win this season with a 44-4 victory over the Panthers.
After a small break, the Saints returned to the mat to take on the Brewton-Parker Baron in their second duel of the day. After giving up forfeits at the first two weights (125,133), the Saints picked up 3 straight pins from
Cole Thomas (141),
Ryan Moore (149), and
Kailan Keith (157). Winning two victories at the 165 lbs and 174 lbs weight classes, the Baron fought back, bringing the score to 24-20 in favor of the Saints. At 197 lbs, Frenshan Wade Getting picked up a major decision (14-4) over Thomas Crawford to solidify the win for the Saints. And with a cherry on top, heavyweight
Daulton Mayer picked up another fall to close out the dual with a final score of 34-20.
The Saints battled with the hosting Midway Eagles for their last match of the day.
Â
At 125lbs,
Shay Horton started the dual off strong with a fall (0:41) over Andrew Vogeler. A forfeit by the Saints gave Midway 6 team points to tie the match right back.
Cole Thomas squeaked out a close 4-3 victory over Kyler Adams at 141 lbs to bring the
team score to 9-6 after the first three weights. With falls from
Ryan Moore (149lbs) and
Kailan Keith (157 lbs) the Saints started to pull away putting them up 21-6 midway through the match. The Eagles picked up a win at 165lbs and a fall at 174 lbs as they tried to mount a comeback bringing the score to 21-15.
Zavier Campsey came up big for the Saints by getting a huge fall at 184 lbs putting the Saints up by 12 with two matches to go. The Eagles needed two falls in a row to tie the match and possibly win the dual.
They got halfway there with a fall at 197 lbs but ran into the pin-king himself,
Daulton Mayer. With his victory by fall over Byron Pierce, Mayer hit a milestone of 100 wins in his career as a Saint. He continues his streak of wins and pins, bringing it to a total of 13 matches in a row which takes his record this season to 13-0. That would wrap up the dual for the Saints, winning 33-21 over Midway. With that victory, the Saints completed the sweep, going 3-0 on the day.
