(Crestview Hills, KY) – The Thomas More University women's volleyball team dropped a thrilling 3-2 (25-20, 23-25, 23-25, 25-22, 15-10) match at home Tuesday night to the visiting Mount St. Joseph Lions.
How It Happened
All five sets were very close throughout as both teams were evenly matched. The Lions held a steady lead throughout set one that the Saints couldn't come back from in a 25-20 loss.
The Saints held an 18-12 lead in the second set, before the Lions started roaring back. They used a 10-5 flurry to cut it to one at 23-22, but three straight service errors ended the set at 25-23 and tied the match 1-1.
After trailing 18-15 in set three, a 5-0 Saints run shifted the momentum. Lion errors fueled the rally. A pair of
Jess Gearries kills down the stretch led Thomas More to a 2-1 match lead.
Set four was all square at 21-21, with the Saints having a chance to put away the match. Unfortunately, a 4-1 run gave the Lions the win and sent it to the fifth set. This was the first five-set match at the Connor Convocation Center this season and fourth for the team overall.
Mount St. Joseph played very well during the fifth set and kept the Saints at bay throughout. They held a 9-4 lead before Thomas More made one final push. A pair of Saints kills and a Lion error pushed it to 9-7, but a 4-0 Lion rally followed and all but sealed the win in the eventual 15-10 loss.
