(Adrian, MI) – The Thomas More University women's volleyball team won a pair of matches Friday evening at the Siena Heights Tournament, beating Kentucky Christian University, 3-0 and host Siena Heights University, 3-1.
Sydney Hilderbran led the first match with 11 kills while
Asia Ferrando had 17 digs and
Sam McClanahan dished out 39 assists.
Ally Albrinck matched her season-high with 16 kills in the second match while Ferrando had 24 digs and McClanahan had 41 assists.
Match One – Thomas More Defeats Kentucky Christian 3-0, (25-15, 25-19, 25-16)
The Saints held a slight 12-10 advantage in the first set, before a 10-1 run all but put it away for Thomas More and made it 22-11. A pair of
Jess Gearries and
Sawyer Lorentz kills fueled the rally. The Saints won set one 25-15.
After holding a 16-15 lead, a 4-0 Thomas More flurry was the difference in the set, moving them ahead 20-15. The Knights would cut it to two, but ultimately Thomas More would take the 2-0 match lead.
Set three was all Saints as they held a 22-11 lead. The Knights tried to make it an interesting set, working it back to eight points, but the Saints would sweep the match 3-0. The Saints hit a season best .308 in the victory.
Match Two - Thomas More Defeats Siena Heights 3-1, (22-25, 25-23, 25-16, 25-22)
Set one was all square at 20-20 before Siena Heights grabbed the momentum with a 3-0 run. A quick two points made it 23-22, but Siena Heights ultimately grabbed a 1-0 match lead with a 25-22 set win.
Thomas More held a 20-16 lead in the second set, before Siena Heights made it a one-point lead after a pair of kills and a Saints error. However, Thomas More held off several late set rallies from Siena Heights and won the set 25-23. A trio of kills from different Saints led them to the set win.
Thomas More led 14-11 in set three before running away with the win after an 8-1 run made it 22-12. A pair of Lorentz kills paired with Knights errors manufactured the run. Thomas More won the set 25-16 to grab a 2-1 match lead.
The Saints tried to run away with the final set, but the Knights made a late push. A 4-0 run tied the set at 22-22 as Siena Heights looked to force a deciding fourth set. It wasn't meant to be however as a pair of Albrinck kills and a
Ruthie Neu ace shutdown Siena Heights and sent the Saints to a 2-0 day.

- McClanahan recorded her fifth double-double of the year (41 assists, 13 digs).
