#7 Men's Basketball Defeat Shawnee State 69-58

(PORTSMOUTH, Ohio)-#7 Thomas More University men's basketball team defeat Shawnee State on Monday evening (Feb. 7), 69-58. The Saints overall record improves to 21-3 and 15-2 in conference.

  • Redshirt junior Ryan Batte (Cincinnati, Ohio/Oak Hills) kicked things off for the Saints making a jump shot to put the Saints on the board (2-0) with 19:46 on the clock.
  • With 13:58 on the clock, sophomore Reid Jolly (Alexandria, Ky./Campbell County) drove to the rim for a layup to put the Saints up 10-8.
  • First year Wyatt Vieth (Hebron, Ky./St. Henry) would hit a 3-point shot with 1:16 to play to make it a 25-21 game.
  • Batte would drive to the basket for a layup and one for the Saints final points of the half to go into the locker room leading 28-23.
  • Batte led the Saints with 14 points in the first half and had three rebounds.
  • Jolly would follow with eight points and led the team defensively bringing down six rebounds.
  • First year transfer Jacob Jones (Jeffersonville, Ind./Jeffersonville) led the Saints with two assists and had two rebounds in the first half. 
  • The Saints were 29.4% (10-34) from the field, 25% (4-16) from the 3-point line, and 57.1% (4-7) from the free throw line in the first half.

  • Batte started the scoring off for the Saints in the second half with a layup to extend the Saints lead to 30-23 with 19:47 to play.
  • Vieth would knock in a 3-point jump shot with 13:23 on the clock to put the Saints up by nine (42-23).
  • With 8:27 on the clock, graduate student Garren Bertsch (Alexandria, Ky./Campbell County) drained in a 3-point shot at the buzzer of the shot clock (52-41).
  • Graduate student Luke Rudy (Cincinnati, Ohio/Oak Hills) would hit a three-point basket with 4:39 to play in the game to make the score 63-45.
  • Jolly would make two free throws to secure the Saints 69-58 win over the Bears.
  • Bertsch led the Saints in the second half with nine points and had two rebounds.
  • Batte followed with seven points and one rebound.
  • Jolly brought down six rebounds and had two assists to lead the Saints and put up six points in the second half.
  • Rudy recorded six points and one rebound. 
  • The Saints were 51.7% (15-29) from the field, 46.7% (7-15) from the 3-point line, and 80% (4-5) from the free throw line in the second half. 

  • Batte led the Saints putting up 21 points and had four rebounds.
  • Jolly recorded a double with 14 points and brought down 12 rebounds to lead the Saints he also had two assists.
  • Bertsch tallied nine points and four rebounds. 
  • Sophomore Noah Pack (Georgetown, Ohio/Georgetown) had seven rebounds.
  • Junior Logan Swackhammer (Chillicothe, Ohio/Unioto) had seven points and five rebounds.
  • Jones recorded three assists to lead the Saints and had three points and two rebounds.
  • The Saints were 39.7% (25-62) from the field, 35.5% (11-31) from the 3-point line, and 66.7% (8-12) from the free throw line. 

The Saints return to the Connor Convocation Center on Thursday (Feb. 10) to take on Freed Hardeman at 8:00 pm ET.
