Men's Basketball Comes up Short in MSC Tournament Finals to Georgetown

(BOWLING GREEN, Ky.)-No. 1 seed Thomas More University men's basketball team fell to No. 3 seed Georgetown (Ky.) on Monday evening (Feb. 28), 59-68 in the Mid-South Conference Tournament Finals. The Saints overall record falls to 27-4.

  • Sophomore Reid Jolly (Alexandria, Ky./Campbell County) kicked things off for the Saints with a jump shot to put the team on the board 2-0 with 19:19 on the clock and start the Saints 7-0 run over the Tigers.
  • With 12:16 on the clock, graduate student Luke Rudy (Cincinnati, Ohio/Oak Hills) drained a 3-point shot to extend the Saints lead to 15-9.
  • First year Casey George (Pickerington, Ohio/Pickerington North) drove to the rim for a layup to help the Saints regain the lead 24-23 with 6:49 to play in the first half.
  • Sophomore Noah Pack (Georgetown, Ohio/Georgetown) would make the Saints final basket of the half with a layup to make it a 32-29 game.
  • The Saints would lead 32-31 going into the locker room at the half.
  • Redshirt junior Ryan Batte (Cincinnati, Ohio/Oak Hills) would lead the Saints with 11 points and three assists and brought down three rebounds.
  • Jolly would follow with 10 points and three rebounds.
  • First year transfer Jacob Jones (Jeffersonville, Ind./Jeffersonville) would lead the Saints with rebounds and had one assist and two points.
  • The Saints were 36.8% (14-38) from the the field, 30% (3-10) from the 3-point line, and 25% (1-4) from the free throw line in the first half.

  • Jolly would start things off for the Saints in the second half with a layup to put the team up 34-33 with 19:22 on the clock.
  • With 13:11 on the clock, Pack would make a 3-point jump shot for the Saints to regain the lead 44-42.
  • Jolly would drain a 3-pointer to make it a 55-52 game with 4:25 to play.
  • Batte would make a layup for the Saints final basket of the game with 1:55 to play (59-59).
  • The Saints would fall 59-68 to Georgetown.
  • Jolly would lead the Saints with 14 points and three assists in the second half and had three rebounds.
  • Batte led the Saints with six rebounds and three assists and had five points.
  • The Saints were 37.9% (11-29) from the field, 30% (3-10) from the 3-point line, and 50% (2-4) from the free throw line in the second half.

  • Jolly led the Saints with 24 points and had six rebounds and three assists.
  • Batte led the team with nine rebounds and six assists and tallied 16 points.
  • The Saints were 37.3% (25-67) from the field, 30% (6-20) from the 3-point line, and 37.5% (3-8) from the free throw line. 

The Saints return to the court on March 11 in the Opening Round of the NAIA National Tournament in the Connor Convocation Center with their opponent to TBA on Thursday (March 4).
