Saints Run By Central State In Non-Conference Action

(CRESTVIEW HILLS, Ky.) - The Thomas More University women's volleyball team swept the visiting Central State University Marauders Thursday night in the Connor Convocation Center, 3-0 (25-17, 25-13, 25-14).

Results

The first set saw the Marauders jump out to a 11-8 lead, before the Saints snatched the momentum of the entire match with a 12-2 run to take a 20-13 lead. The rally was fueled by a pair of Jess Gearries kills and a pair of Sam McClanahan aces. Sydney Hilderbran would have a pair of kills down the stretch of the set as the Saints took it 25-17.
 
Thomas More dominated set two and led 24-10 before a couple late Central State points made it 25-13. Hilderbran had four kills during the set while Gearries and Brenna Young both had three.
 
The final set saw Thomas More leading 19-14 before a 6-0 run ended the set at 25-14 and the match 3-0. Gearries had four more kills during the set, while Sawyer Lorentz had three.

Notables
  • Gearries had a match-high 11 kills, her sixth match this season with double-digit kills. She hit .526, a season-best mark.  
  • Asia Ferrando had a match-high 17 digs, her 20th match this season with double-digit digs and 18th with 15 or more digs.
  • McClanahan had a match-high 25 assists, her 21st match this season with 25 or more assists.
  • The Saints recorded 11 aces during the match, their fourth match this season with 11 or more aces.

Up Next

Thomas More is now 14-8 overall this season and will move back into Mid-South Conference play on Thursday in Portsmouth, Ohio at 7:00 p.m. against Shawnee State University. The Saints beat the Bears 3-1 on Sep. 15 in their MSC opener.
