Saints Win Second Straight Five-Set Tennessee Thriller

(MCKENZIE, Tenn.)- The Thomas More University women's volleyball team defeated Bethel University (Tenn.) in Mid-South Conference action Saturday afternoon 3-2. They end their weekend trip to Tennessee 2-0 after beating Freed-Hardeman last night.

Results

The first set was a barn burner as it took extra points to declare a winner. Both teams found themselves one point away from the set win on multiple occasions, but it was Bethel, who used three Hannah McGowan kills in a row to take set one 31-29.

The Saints trailed 22-20 in the second set before a pair of Ally Albrinck kills ignited a Thomas More 5-0 run to take the set and tie things up at 1-1 in the match.

The Saints led 23-16 in set three before Bethel tried to make a final push with a 3-0 flurry, but a Jess Gearries kill, and Kate Woelfel ace sealed the set and gave them a 2-1 lead.

The Wildcats handled the Saints in the fourth set and for the second day in a row, the third match in a row, and sixth time this season, they were heading to set five.

Thomas More held a steady lead throughout the final set, although the Wildcats did not go away quietly. It was 12-10 Saints before a 3-0 run based on Bethel errors sealed the match for Thomas More.
