#10 Men's Basketball Down #17 Georgetown for the Fourth Straight Win Over the Tigers

(GEORGETOWN, Ky.)- #10 Thomas More University men's basketball team defeated #17 Georgetown for the fourth straight time in a row on Monday evening (Jan. 24), 85-74. The Saints overall record improves to 18-2 overall and 12-1 in the conference.

  • Redshirt junior Ryan Batte (Cincinnati, Ohio/Oak Hills) passed the ball to graduate student Luke Rudy (Cincinnati, Ohio/Oak Hills) who went up for a layup to put the Saints on the board (2-0) with 19:47 to play in the first half.
  • With 14:55 on the clock, graduate student Garren Bertsch (Alexandria, Ky./Campbell County) topped off the Saints 6-0 run over the Tigers to give the team a 12 point lead (16-4).
  • First year transfer Jacob Jones (Jeffersonville, Ind./Jeffersonville) drove to the rim for a layup and one to extend the Saints lead to 18 with 8:32 to play in the first half.
  • Batte would make a layup for the final basket of the first half to secure the Saints lead going into the locker room, 50-30. 
  • Batte led the Saints with 18 points and had four rebounds and one assist in the first half.
  • Sophomore Reid Jolly (Alexandria, Ky./Campbell County) followed with eight points and two rebounds.
  • Sophomore Noah Pack (Georgetown, Ohio/Georgetown) would lead the Saints in assists with with two and tallied six points and two rebounds.
  • Junior Logan Swackhammer (Chillicothe, Ohio/Unioto) led the team defensively, bringing down five rebounds.
  • The Saints were 60.6% (23-33) from the field, 37.5% (3-8) from the 3-point line, and 7I 7.8% (is 7-9) from the free throw line in the first half.
  • The Saints turned the ball only once in the first half compared to the Tigers seven turnovers. 

  • Batte kicked off the second half for the Saints making a fade away jump shot with two seconds left on the shot clock to put the Saints up 52-32 with 16:54 to play in the game.
  • With 12:59 to play, Jolly would drain a 3-point shot to extend the Saints lead to 60-42.
  • Batte would hit a jump shot with 4:47 to play, to make it a 73-59 game.
  • Jones would make one free throw with 13 seconds left to secure the Saints victory over the Tigers, 85-74.
  • Jolly led the Saints with 17 points in the second half and had two rebounds. 
  • Batte would follow with 10 points and two rebounds and led the team in assists with three.
  • Pack brought down five rebounds to lead the Saints.
  • The Saints were 47.6% (10-21) from the field, 33.3% (2-6_ from the 3-point line, and 72.2% (13-18) from the free throw line in the second half. 

  • Batte led the team with 28 points and four assists and also had six rebounds.
  • Jolly followed with 25 points and four rebounds.
  • Jones tallied 13 points and two assists.
  • Pack and Swackhammer would both lead the team with seven rebounds.
  • The Saints were 55.6% (30-54) from the field, 35.7% (5-14) from the 3-point line, and 74.1% (20-27) from the free throw line. 
  • The Saints have defeated Georgetown in their last four matchups against each other, giving the Saints a 5-2 record over the Tigers.

Next up, the Saints travel to Pulaski, Tenn. to take on Tennessee Southern at 9:00 pm ET on Thursday (Jan. 27).
