#23 Men's Basketball Improves Record with Win Over Kent State-Tuscarawas in the Connor Classic

(CRESTVIEW HILLS, Ky.)-Thomas More University men's basketball team improves their overall record to 3-1 on Sunday afternoon (Nov. 14) with 77-49 win over Kent State Tuscarawas in the Thomas More Connor Classic.

  • Graduate student Luke Rudy (Cincinnati, Ohio/ Oak Hills) started things off early for the Saints, driving to the basket for a layup to put the Saints on the board with 19:47 on the clock (2-0).
  • Junior Logan Swackhammer (Chillicothe, Ohio/Unioto) drained a 3-point jump shot with 11:50 to play in the first half to extend the Saints lead to 17-9.
  • With 3:56 to play in the first half, sophomore Eli Howard (Newport, Ky. / Newport Central Catholic) swished a three for his first points of the game (25-20).
  • First year Casey George (Pickerington, Ohio/Pickerington) would make a layup to secure the Saints lead going into the locker room at the half (34-20).
  • Rudy and sophomore Noah Pack (Georgetown, Ohio/Georgetown) both would lead the Saints with eight points in the first half.
  • Rudy would also lead the Saints defensively with four total rebounds.
  • Graduate student Garren Bertsch (Alexandria, Ky./Campbell County), George, and Pack would all have two assists.
  • The Saints were 44.8% (13-29) from the field, 31.3% (5-16) from the 3-point line, and 75% (3-4) from the free throw line in the first half.

  • Pack sunk two free throws for the Saints to kick things off in the second with 18:19 on the clock (36-20).
  • George's made free throw started the Saints 11-0 run over the Golden Eagles in the second half.
  • With 9:52 to play in the game, Rudy would add three points with a 3-point shot to give the Saints a 20 point lead (56-36).
  • First year Wyatt Vieth (Hebron, Ky. / St. Henry) would make a jump shot to seal the Saints win over the Golden Eagles, 77-49.
  • Rudy would lead the Saints in the second half with 14 points and had three rebounds.
  • George would follow with nine points, two rebounds, and an assist. 
  • Pack led the Saints defensively with seven total rebounds and two points. 
  • Bertsch and Swackhammer both had two assists in the second half to lead the Saints in the second half, and both had six points. 
  • The Saints were 42.3% (11-26) from the field, 40% (6-16) from the 3-point line, and 75% (15-20) from the free throw line in the scond half. 

  • Rudy led the way for the Saints with 22 points and had seven rebounds.
  • George followed with 16 points, four rebounds, and three assists. 
  • Pack would lead things defensively with nine total rebounds and put up 10 points and three assists.
  • Bertsch recorded four assists to lead the team and put up six points and came down with six rebounds.
  • Swackhammer tallied nine points, four rebounds, and three assists.
  • The Saints were 43.6% (24-55) from the field, 35.5% (11-31) from the 3-point line, and 75% (18-24) from the free throw line. 

The Saints return to the court on Thursday evening (Nov. 18) to open up conference play against Life at 8:00 pm in the Connor Convocation Center.
