Box Score (CRESTVIEW HILLS, Ky.) — The Thomas More University men's basketball held off Campbellsville University, 52-46, in a defensive battle to earn a Mid-South Conference win on Saturday (January 25, 2020) at the Connor Convocation Center.
- After a back-and-forth start to the game, the Saints used a 12-0 run, highlighted by three-pointers by Garren Bertsch (Alexandria, Ky./Campbell County) and Noah Pack (Georgetown, Ohio/Georgetown), to pull away to a 21-9 lead with 6:55 left in the half.
- Campbellsville cut the deficit down to six before back-to-back baskets by Luke Rudy (Cincinnati, Ohio/Oak Hills) and Reid Jolly (Alexandria, Ky./Campbell County) pushed the Saints' lead back in to double-digits at 27-17 with 4:11 left in the half.
- The Tigers scored at the buzzer to end the half, but the Saints went into the break with the lead, 31-26.
- Thomas More shot 9-of-23 (39.1 percent) from the field and 4-of-9 (44.4 percent) from long range in the opening period.
- Rudy scored 12 points in the half to lead the team.
- Early three-pointers by Max Knisley (Washington Court House, Ohio/Washington) and Pack extended the lead back up to 11 points, 39-28, with 16:19 to play.
- The two teams continued to trade baskets, with another Pack three keeping the Saints up by 11, 50-39, with 5:50 remaining.
- That proved to be the last field goal of the game for Thomas More as Campbellsville went on a 7-0 run to trim the lead to 50-46 with 1:26 left, but a pair of Knisley free throws with 29 seconds to go closed out the game.
- The Saints made 8-of-22 (36.4 percent) field goals and 3-of-13 (23.1 percent) three-pointers in the second half, but held the Tigers to 8-of-28 (28.6 percent) from the field and 1-of-10 from three-point range.
- Jolly hauled in seven rebounds in the second half.
- Thomas More moved to 15-5 overall and 3-5 in Mid-South Conference play, and Campbellsville fell to 13-9 overall and 3-5 in the conference.
- Overall, the Saints shot 37.8 percent (17-of-45) from the field and 31.8 percent (7-of-22) from three-point range, while the Tigers were held to 35.8 percent from the field (19-of-53) and 26.3 percent (5-of-19) from deep.
- Rudy led the Saints with 17 points on 6-of-9 shooting.
- Pack scored 10 points and pulled down eight rebounds.
- Jolly led the team with nine rebounds, adding six points.
- Bertsch finished with eight points, five rebounds, and two blocks.
