(CINCINNATI, Ohio) – The Thomas More University football team defeated across-the-river rival Cincinnati Christian University, 35-19, today (Saturday, September 28, 2019) on an unseasonable warm day at Willard R. Stargel Stadium in Cincinnati, Ohio.
- Thomas More took a 7-0 lead with 7:37 to play in the quarter when senior quarterback Justin Post (Macedonia, Ohio/Nordonia) connected on a 15-yard pass to sophomore tight end Mason Kramer (Alexandria, Ky./Campbell County) and sophomore kicker Alexander Haley (Lebanon, Ohio/Lebanon) added the point-after-attempt.
- Senior wide receiver/return specialist Da'marco Canty (Bogart, Ga./North Oconee) returned a punt 38-yards for a touchdown and Haley added the PAT to increase the lead to 14-0 with 8:30 to play in the quarter.
- Cincinnati Christian cut the lead to 14-6 at halftime as Derrick Taylor connected on 73-yard touchdown pass and Kevin Rockwood PAT was no good with 3:01 to play in the second quarter.
- CCU made the score 14-12 with 2:02 to play in the quarter when Daylor and Jamar Nubby connected on an 18-yard touchdown pass and the two-point try was no good.
- Senior wide receiver Mitchell Hogue (Harrison, Ohio/Harrison) scored on a 12-yard touchdown catch from Post and Haley added the PAT with 17-second to play in the third quarter.
- With 14:51 to play in the game, Nuby scored on a 74-yard touchdown run and Rockwood made the PAT to cut the Saints' lead to 21-19.
- Thomas More increased the lead to 28-19 with 11:50 to play in the game when junior running back Monalo Caldwell (Cincinnati, Ohio/Colerain) scored on a two-yard touchdown run and Haley added the PAT.
- The Saints closed out the scoring with 2:54 to play in the game when junior running back Justin Durham (Elsmere, Ky./Lloyd Memorial) scored on six-yard run and Haley added the PAT for the final score of 35-19.
- Thomas More improve to 2-3, while Cincinnati Christian fell to 1-4.
- The Saints out-gained CCU 482 yards (241 rushing/241 passing) to 443 yards (134 rushing/309 passing).
- Post was 23-of-28 passing for 241 yards and two touchdowns.
- Caldwell carried the ball 24 times for 131 yards and one touchdown.
- Durham finished the game with eight carries for 97 yards and one touchdown.
- Hogue led the receivers with a school single-game record of 12 catches for 124 yard and a touchdown.
- Canty had two catches for 48 yards and had two returns for 45 yards and a touchdown.
- Sophomore linebacker Peyton Van Horn (Hebron, Ky./Conner) led the defense with 10 tackles (five solo/five assisted).
- Sophomore defensive back Ky Jones (Chicago, Ill./Ravenna) had six tackles (four solo/two assisted)
- Sophomore defensive lineman Keion Williams (Middletown, Ohio/Middletown) had five tackles (two solo/three assisted).
- Junior defensive lineman Jacob Steinmetz (St. Leon, Ind./East Central) had three tackles, (two solo/one assisted) including one and a half sacks.
- Sophomore defensive back Kethan Clark (Berwick, La./Berwick) had three tackles (all solo) and had an interception.
- Thomas More is idle next week and will return to action on October 12 when it travels to Campbellsville, Kentucky to play Campbellsville University in a Mid-South Conference Bluegrass Division game.
