Thomas More Shuts Out Pikeville, 4-0, to Remain Undefeated at Home

(CRESTVIEW HILLS, Ky.) – The Thomas More University women's soccer team recorded its eighth shutout of the season tonight (Wednesday, October 16, 2019) as it defeated the University of Pikeville, 4-0, in a Mid-South Conference match at BB&T Field in Crestview Hills, Kentucky.

  • The Saints took a 1-0 lead in the third minute on an own goal.
  • Thomas More increased the lead 2-0 when junior defender Abby Hutcheson (Zanesville, Ohio/Rosecrans) scored off an assist from first-year defender Ryann Meddings (Fairfield, Ohio/Fairfield) in the 10th minute.
  • In the 64th minute, first-year midfielder Marissa Kahn (Hamilton, Ohio/Badin) scored off a cross from sophomore defender Hannah Kopriwa (Cincinnati, Ohio/Taylor) and Thomas More extended the lead to 3-0.
  • The Saints closed out the scoring in the 77th minute as junior forward Hannah Dargo (Maineville, Ohio/Kings) scored off a double assist by senior defender Megan Sheridan (Cincinnati, Ohio/Oak Hills) and first-year forward Hannah Allen (Lexington, Ky./Simon Kenton) for the final score of 4-0.

  • Thomas More improved to 9-6 overall and 2-3 in the Mid-South.
  • Pikeville fell to 5-7 overall and 0-4 in the Mid-South.
  • The Saints remain undefeated at home as they are 9-0 at BB&T Field
  • Senior goalkeeper Aleyna Heyman (Beavercreek, Ohio/Beavercreek) earned the shutout win as she played all 90 minutes and had two saves.
  • Thomas More out-shot Pikeville 37-2, including 20-2 in-goal.
  • The Saints had a 6-0 advantage in corner kicks.
  • Sophomore midfielder Lindsey Brown (Melbourne, Ky./Campbell County) led the Saints in shots with six, including five.
  • Senior forward Olivia Nienaber  (Alexandria, Ky./Bishop Brossart) tallied five shots, including two on goal.

  • Thomas More will return to action on Saturday (October 19) when it hosts Shawnee State University at 5 p.m. on Homecoming and Senior Day at BB&T Field.
