(MIAMI GARDENS, Fla.) – The second ranked Thomas More University women's basketball team remained undefeated today (Thursday, December 20, 2018) as it defeated California Lutheran University, 76-42, on the final day of The Exclusive Tournament played at the Fernandez Family Center in Miami Gardens, Florida. The Saints improve to 15-0 and the Regals fall to 5-5.
- Thomas More jumped out to a 22-9 lead after the first quarter.
- The Saints out-scored Cal Lutheran 18-5 in the second quarter to extend the lead to 40-14 at halftime.
- Thomas More shot 55.6 percent (15-of-27) from the floor in the opening half.
- Senior guard Madison Temple (Cincinnati, Ohio/Anderson) led the team with 19 points, four rebounds, four assists and four steals.
- Junior forward Emily Schultz (Melbourne, Ky./Bishop Brossart) added 12 points and four rebounds.
- Thomas More extended the lead to 59-28 after three quarters, before cruising to the 76-72 victory.
- Temple scored nine points in the second half.
- Junior guard Kaela Saner (Florence, Ky./Boone County) added six points in the half.
- Rupp and first-year guard Caroline Buddenberg (Erlanger, Ky./Dixie Heights) each pulled down four rebounds in the closing half.
- Thomas More shot 50 percent (29-of-58) from the field.
- The Saints had a 40-16 advantage on points in the paint and 17-11 on second chance points.
- Thomas More out-rebounded Cal Lutheran, 50-29.
- Temple finished the game with 28 points, five rebounds, four assists and four steals.
- Temple now has 1,771 career points and is 18 points shy of the all-time leading scorer record of 1,789, which is held by Abby Owings (2014-18).
- Schultz finished the game with 12 points, seven rebounds, three steals and two assits.
- Senior forward Shelby Rupp (Milan, Ind./Batesville) had eight points and seven rebounds.
- First-year guard Asyah Mitchell (Kenton County, Ky./Cooper) had seven points.
- Thomas More is idle until December 28 and 29 when it competes at the Amy Hasbrook Memorial Classic hosted by DePauw University in Greencastle, Indiana.
- The Saints will play Franklin College on December 28 at 4 p.m. and will face either 21st-ranked DePauw or Finlandia University on the December 29.
