(CRESTVIEW HILLS, Ky.) – Junior forward Nikki Kiernan (Cold Springs, Ky./Newport Central Catholic) scored 15 points today (Saturday, January 28, 2017), while becoming the 18th Thomas More College women's basketball player to score 1,000 career points and led the No. 3/4-ranked Saints to a 94-45 win over Chatham University in a Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) game at the Connor Convocation Center in Crestview Hills, Kentucky.
With the win, the Saints remain undefeated at 19-0 overall and 12-0 in the PAC. With the loss, the Cougars fall to 10-8 overall and 5-7 in the PAC.
Kiernan scored her team-high 15th point of the game and her 1,001st career point with a lay-up with 7:17 to play in the third quarter.
The Saints led 28-8 after one quarter and 45-26 at halftime. Thomas More used a 27-3 third quarter to extend the lead to 72-29 after three quarters before cruising to the 94-45 victory. The Saints host 55.2 percent (37-of-67) from the field today. Thomas More out-scored Chatham 52-22 in the paint, 25-14 of turnovers and 20-2 on fast break points, while the Saints' bench out-scored Chatham's 50-7.
Joining Kiernan in double-figures was sophomore guard Madison Temple (Cincinnati, Ohio/Anderson) with 13 points, junior guard Abby Owings (Independence, Ky./Simon Kenton) with 12 points and first-year forward Emily Schultz (Melbourne, Ky./Bishop Brossart) with 10 points. Kiernan just missed a double-double as she pulled down a game-high nine rebounds, while Temple and senior forward Kirsten Paul (Cincinnati, Ohio/Cincinnati Christian) each pulled down seven rebounds. Owings also just missed a double-double as she dished out a game-high nine assists and led the team in steals with four.
Thomas More returns to action on Wednesday (February 1) when it travels to Bethany, West Virginia to play Bethany College at 6 p.m.
