(LATROBE, Pa.) – Four Saints reached double-figures tonight (Wednesday, January 18, 2017) as the No. 3/5-ranked Thomas More College women's basketball defeated Saint Vincent College, 92-60, in a Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) game at the Robert S. Carey Center in Latrobe, Pennsylvania.
With the win the win, the Saints improve to 16-0 overall and 9-0 in the PAC after the first half of conference play. With the loss, the Bearcats fall to 9-7 overall and 6-3 in the PAC.
The Saints led 20-9 after one quarter and then out-scored the Bearcats 26-17 in the second quarter to lead 46-26 at halftime. Thomas More then led 71-38 after three quarters and cruised to the 92-60 victory.
Thomas More, who shot 52.9 percent (36-of-68) from the field, out-scored Saint Vincent 54-22 in the paint, 23-8 off turnovers and 11-9 on second chance points.
Sophomore guard Madison Temple (Cincinnati, Ohio/Anderson) led all scorers with 23 points. She was joined in double-figures by junior forward Nikki Kiernan (Cold Springs, Ky./Newport Central Catholic) with 20 points, junior guard Abby Owings (Independence, Ky./Simon Kenton) with 14 points and senior forward Kirsten Paul (Cincinnati, Ohio/Cincinnati Christian) with 10 points. Kiernan registered her eighth double-double of the season as she pulled down a game-high 12 rebounds and also blocked three shots. Sophomore guard Michaela Ware (Newport, Ky./Newport Central Catholic) led the team in assists with six, while Temple led the team in steals with four.
The Saints begin the second half of the PAC schedule on Saturday (November 21) when they travel to Grove City, Pennsylvania to play Grove City College at 1 p.m.
