Saints Drop Ball Against Crusaders

Box Score

By: B.J. Pheasant, Assistant Soccer Coach

(CINCINNATI, Ohio) –Thomas More College men's soccer team hosted Capital University today (Saturday, September 24, 2016) in a non-conference match at BB&T Field in Crestview Hills, Kentucky. In a hard fought game the Saints lost 2-0 to fall to 4-5 on the season while the Crusaders improve to 7-1.

The Saints had a chance to score early in the 3rd minute, but the game was fairly even through the first fifteen minutes. TMC dominated the ball in the final 30 minutes of the first half and out shot the Crusaders 8-3. The key was their patience in possession as they built from the back. They also earned several corner kicks that were dangerous, but the execution wasn't enough to get the ball in the net. Unfortunately, the Crusaders won a corner of their own and scored against the run of play in the 42nd minute to take a 1-0 lead into half.

In the second half the game turned in a slog in the middle third with limited opportunities for each team. Goalkeeper Jeff Paulin (Alexandria, Ky./Bishop Brossart) was called upon to keep his team in the game on several occasions and did so with aplomb.

As the Saints pressed forward looking for the equalizer space opened up in the back. The Crusaders were able to exploit that space in the 81st minute and add an insurance goal. The final shot tally was 11-6 in favor of the Saints. The final corner kick total went the Saint's way 5-4. The final score line 0-2 against.

The Saints travel to Wittenberg on Tuesday the 27th and DePauw on Thursday the 29th to close out their non conference portion of the schedule. Live video and stats are available with links found on TMCSaints.com on the men's soccer schedule page.
