Box Score (CRESTVIEW HILLS, Ky.) – The Thomas More College volleyball team rallied from a 2-1 deficit to defeat Washington & Jefferson College, 3-2, today (Sunday, September 11, 2016) in its Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) opener at the Connor Convocation Center in Crestview Hills, Kentucky. The Saints won by the scores of 25-21, 24-26, 25-19, 25-16 and 15-11.
With the win, the Saints improve to 3-5 overall and 1-0 in the PAC. With the loss, the Presidents fall to 5-2 overall and 0-1 in the PAC.
Thomas More led must of the first set as it won 25-21. In second the Saint trailed 20-15, but rallied to tie the set at 24-24 before eventually falling 26-24. W&J controlled the third et winning 25-16 and taking a 2-1 lead in the match. The Saints then won the fourth set 25-16 and the fifth 15-11 to win the match 3-2.
Thomas More had five players with double-digit kills led by senior right side Paige Noday (Cincinnati, Ohio/McNicholas) and first-year outside hitter Madison Krumpelman (Crestview Hills, Ky./Holy Cross) with 14 kills each. First-year setter Alli Borders (Florence, Ky./Boone County), first-year middle hitter Rana Cousin (Bowling Green, Ohio/Warren Central) and senior outside hitter Alexis Bierbaum (Cincinnati, Ohio/McAuley) all finished with 10 kills. Borders led the team in assists with 47, while sophomore defensive specialist Leanna Dant (Louisville, Ky./Bethlehem) led the team in service aces with six.
Junior defensive specialist Rachel Bronner (Reading, Ohio/Mount Notre Dame) led the Saints' defensive effort with 34 digs. Four other Saints had double-digit digs as Krumpelman had 16, Dant had 15, Borders finished with 13 and senior outside hitter Sydney Bragg (Huron, Ohio/Huron) had 10.
Thomas More returns to action on Wednesday (September 14) when it travels to Greencastle, Indiana to play DePauw University at 7 p.m.
