Box Score 2 (PITTSBURGH, Pa.) – The Thomas More College volleyball team swept a pair of matches today (Thursday, October 8, 2015) as it defeated Chatham University and Waynesburg University both by a score of 3-0 in Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) tri-match at Chatham's Athletic & Fitness Center in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.
With the sweep, the Saints improve to 11-3 overall and 10-0 PAC.
In the first match of the day, Thomas More defeated Chatham by the scores of 25-7, 25-15 and 25-9. Freshman defensive specialist Leanne Dant (Louisville, Ky./Bethlehem) led the offense with six service aces. Junior middle hitter Jessica Knaley (Florence, Ky./St. Henry) led the team in kills with 17, while sophomore setter Jenna Fessler (Fort Mitchell, Ky./Beechwood) led the team in assists 17, while sophomore defensive specialist Rachel Bronner (Reading, Ohio/Mount Notre Dame) added four assists.
Defensively for the Saints, Dant had nine digs, freshman defensive specialist Haley Cundiff (Alexandria, Ky./Campbell County) had eight digs and Bronner finished with seven digs.
In the second match of the day, the Saints downed Waynesburg by the scores of 25-13, 25-10 and 25-11. The Saints' attack was led by senior outside hitter Stacy Howell (Cincinnati, Ohio/Glen Este) with 10 kills and junior outside hitter Marisa Meyer (Cincinnati, Ohio/Seton) with nine kills. Knaley led the team in service aces with four, while Fessler added three. Fessler led the team in assists with 21 and Knaley finished with five.
Meyer led the team in digs with 14, while Howell added 11 and Bronner finished with nine.
Thomas More returns to the court tomorrow when it takes on Grove City College at 7 p.m. inside Grove City College Arena in Grove City, Pennsylvania.
