Box Score 2 (HANOVER, Ind.) – The Thomas More College volleyball team split a non-conference tri-match today (Saturday, October 24, 2015) in Hanover, Indiana. The Saints defeated Bluffton University, 3-1, but fell, 3-2, to host Hanover College.
With the split the Saints are now 21-4 on the season.
In the first match of the day, Thomas More defeated Bluffton by the scores of 25-13, 25-20, 21-25 and 25-22. Senior outside hitter Stacy Howell (Cincinnati, Ohio/Glen Este) led the Saints' offense with 21 kills. Three other Saints had double-digit kills as senior middle hitter Jessica Knaley (Florence, Ky./St. Henry) had 14, junior middle hitter Alexis Bierbaum (Cincinnati, Ohio/McAuley) had 12 and junior outside hitter Marisa Meyer (Cincinnati, Ohio/Seton) finished with 11. Sophomore setter Jenna Fessler (Fort Mitchell, Ky./Beechwood) led the team in assists with 59.
The Saints' defense was led by sophomore defensive specialist Rachel Bronner (Reading, Ohio/Mount Notre Dame) with 17 digs and Howell with 10 digs.
In the final match of the day, Hanover defeated the Saints by the scores of 15-25, 26-24, 25-27, 25-20 and 16-14. Three Saints finished with double-digit kills as Howell had 21, Knaley finished with 13 and Meyer added 12. Fessler finished the match with 50 assists.
Knaley led the Saints' block party on the defensive side with nine total blocks. Bronner led the team in digs with 20, while Fessler had 14 and Howell and Meyer each had 11.
Thomas More returns to action on Thursday (October 29) when it hosts Thiel College at 7 p.m. on Senior Night at the Connor Convocation Center in Crestview Hills, Kentucky. The Saints will honor Howell and Knaley, who will be playing in their final regular season home match at the Connor Convocation Center, prior to the match.
