Box Score 2 (NEW WILMINGTON, Pa.) – The Thomas More College volleyball team swept a tri-match with Westminster College and Haverford College today (Saturday, October 17, 2015) at Buzz Ridl Gymnasium in New Wilmington, Pennsylvania. The Saints defeated both Westminster and Haverford by the score of 3-0.
With the sweep, the Saints improve to 17-3 overall and 15-0 in the PAC, while extending their winning streak to 16 matches.
In the first match of the day, the Saints defeated the Titans by the scores of 26-24, 25-9 and 25-12. Sophomore setter Jenna Fessler (Fort Mitchell, Ky./Beechwood) paced the offense with 41 assists. Junior middle hitter Alexis Bierbaum (Cincinnati, Ohio/McAuley) led the Saints' offensive attack with 15 kills. Two other Saints had double-digit kills as senior outside hitter Stacy Howell (Cincinnati, Ohio/Glen Este) had 11 and junior outside hitter Marisa Meyer (Cincinnati, Ohio/Seton) added 10.
Sophomore defensive specialist Rachel Bronner (Reading, Ohio/Mount Notre Dame) led the team in digs with 14, while Howell finished with 12.
In the second match of the day, Thomas More defeated non-conference foe Haverford by the scores of 25-15, 25-22 and 25-17. Howell led the Saints' offensive attack with 22 kills, while senior middle hitter Jessica Knaley (Florence, Ky./St. Henry) added 10 kills. Fessler ended the match with 38 assists.
Defensively, three Saints had double-digit digs as Meyer had 13, Howell had 11 and Fessler had 10.
Thomas More returns to action on Monday (October 19) when it hosts Saint Vincent College at 6 p.m. at the Connor Convocation Center in Crestview Hills, Kentucky.
