Box Score (CRESTVIEW HILLS, Ky.) – Junior forward Brian Runyon (Parkersburg, W.Va./Parkersburg) record a hat trick today (Saturday, October 17, 2015) as he led the sixth-ranked Thomas More College men's soccer team to a 6-3 win over Westminster College in a President's Athletic Conference (PAC) match at BB&T Field in Crestview Hills, Kentucky.
With the win, the Saints improve to 12-1-1 overall and 4-0 in the PAC. With the loss, the Titans fall to 7-4-3 overall and 2-2-1 in the PAC.
Thomas More took an early 1-0 at the 6:11 mark when junior forward Nathaniel Seig (Cincinnati, Ohio/LaSalle) scored off a double assist from junior forward Brian Runyon (Parkersburg, W.Va./Parkersburg) and senior forward Austin Juniet (Fort Thomas, Ky./Highlands). Westminster tied the match at 1-1 when Matthew Kiernan made a penalty kick at the 13:43 mark. Runyon then gave the Saints a 2-1 lead when he scored at the 18:15 mark off a Juniet assist. Thomas More extended the lead to 3-1 when Runyon scored off a Juniet cross at the 20:29 mark. The Titans cut the lead to 3-2 at the 21:34 mark when Ethan McCarthy scored unassisted. Thomas More increased the lead to 4-2 at halftime when freshman midfielder Suli Kayed (Union, Ky./Ryle) scored off a Juniet assist at the 38:26 mark.
Juniet gave the Saints a 5-2 lead at the 62:07 mark when he scored off an assist from midfielder Tim Knauer (Batavia, Ohio/Batavia). Runyon scored his third goal of the match off a Juniet assist at the 64:56 mark to extend the lead to 6-2. Westminster's Kornel Foremski scored at the 85:06 mark for the final score of 6-3.
With his five assists in the match, Juniet set a new Thomas More single-game record for assists as he broke the previous mark of four, which was held by Brian Richter.
Freshman goalkeeper Jeff Paulin (Alexandria, Ky./Bishop Brossart) earned the win in goal as he played the first 76:34 and recorded three saves, while allowing one goal. Junior goalkeeper Mike Luebbe (Cincinnati, Ohio/Elder) played the final 13:26 and allowed one goal.
Thomas More out-shot Westminster, 21-8, including 13-6 on-goal and corner kicks were tied at 3-3.
The Saints return to action on Wednesday (October 21) when they travel to Grove City, Pennsylvania to play Grove City College at 1 p.m.
