Box Score 2 (BEAVER FALLS, Pa.) – The Thomas More College volleyball team moved into first place in the Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) standings today (Saturday, October 10, 2015) as it swept a PAC tri-match hosted by Geneva College at Metheny Fieldhouse in Beaver Falls, Pennsylvania. The Saints defeated Geneva, 3-2, and Thiel College, 3-0.
With the sweep the Saints improve to 14-3 overall and remain undefeated in the PAC at 13-0.
The Saints defeated Geneva in the first match of the day by the scores of 25-16, 12-25, 21-25, 25-20 and 15-7. Senior outside hitter Stacy Howell (Cincinnati, Ohio/Glen Este) led the Saints with 16 kills, while senior middle hitter Jessica Knaley (Florence, Ky./St. Henry) added 12. Sophomore setter Jenna Fessler (Fort Mitchell, Ky./Beechwood) paced the offense with 37 assists.
Four Saints finished with double-digit digs as sophomore defensive specialist Rachel Bronner (Reading, Ohio/Mount Notre Dame) had 27 digs, Fessler had 19 digs, Howell had 13 and junior outside hitter Marisa Meyer (Cincinnati, Ohio/Seton) added 10. Junior middle hitter Alexis Bierbaum (Cincinnati, Ohio/McAuley) led the team in blocks with 10.
In the second match of the day, the Saints defeated Thiel 25-15, 25-12 and 25-17. Howell led the team with 14 kills and Knaley added 10. Fessler finished the match with 36 assists.
Bronner led the Saints' defense with 16 digs, while Howell added 15.
Thomas More returns to action on Thursday (October 15) when it hosts Bethany College at 7 p.m. at the Connor Convocation Center in Crestview Hills, Kentucky.
