Box Score (CINCINNATI, Ohio) – The Thomas More College volleyball team defeated across-the-river rival Mount St. Joseph University, 3-0, tonight (Friday, September 5, 2014) on the first day of the Charlie Wrublewski Tournament hosted by Mount St. Joseph at the Harrington Center in Cincinnati, Ohio. The Saints won by the scores of 25-11, 25-7 and 25-23.
With the win, the Saints improve to 4-1 on the season and with the loss, the Lions fall to 2-4.
The Saints' offense was led by sophomore middle hitter Alexis Bierbaum (Cincinnati, Ohio/McAuley), who hit .796 with a team-high 10 kills. Junior outside hitter Stacy Howell (Cincinnati, Ohio/Glen Este) added seven kills, while freshman setter Jenna Fessler (Fort Mitchell, Ky./Beechwood) had a team-high 21 assists and sophomore setter Nicci Stemler (North Bend, Ohio/Seton) added four assists.
Senior defensive specialist Kelsey Castiglioni (Harrison Township, Mich./L'Anse Creuse) led the defense with 13 digs, while Bierbaum had a team-high three total blocks.
Thomas More will return to the Harrington Center tomorrow for the final day of the Charlie Wrublewski Tournament as it plays Westminster (Mo.) College at 11:30 a.m. and Heidelberg University at 2 p.m.
