Box Score 2 (CRESTVIEW HILLS, Ky.) – The Thomas More College volleyball team swept Waynesburg University and Thiel College today (Saturday, September 27, 2014) in a Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) tri-match at the Connor Convocation Center in Crestview Hills, Kentucky.
With the sweep, the Saints improve to 14-2 overall and 4-0 in the PAC.
In the first match of the day, the Saints defeated Waynesburg by the scores of 25-7, 25-11 and 25-17. As a team, Thomas More hit .432 and Waynesburg hit -.096. Freshman outside hitter Kristen Jansen (Cincinnati, Ohio/Oak Hills) led the team in kills with six, while sophomore middle hitter Marisa Meyer (Cincinnati, Ohio/Seton) had five kills. Sophomore setter Nicci Stemler (North Bend, Ohio/Seton) led the team in assists with 11, while freshman setter Jenna Fessler (Fort Mitchell, Ky./Beechwood) finished with 10. Senior defensive specialist Chrisitna Newport-Brackett (Louisville, Ky./Seneca) led the team in service aces with three.
Meyer led the team in digs with 11 and sophomore middle hitter Alexis Bierbaum (Cincinnati, Ohio/McAuley) led the team in blocks with three.
In the second match of the day, Thomas More defeated Thiel by the scores of 25-10, 25-18 and 25-13. Senior outside hitter Felicity Britt (Alexandria, Ky./Bishop Brossart) led the team in kills with nine, while junior middle hitter Jessica Knaley (Florence, Ky./St. Henry) and junior outside hitter Stacy Howell (Cincinnati, Ohio/Glen Este) each finished with eight kills. Fessler paced the offense with 34 assists, while senior defensive specialist Kelsey Castiglioni (Harrison Township, Mich./L'Anse Creuse) led the team in service aces with three.
Defensively, the team was led in digs by Castiglioni with 23 and Newport-Brackett with 10.
Thomas More returns to action on Wednesday (October 1) when it hosts Saint Vincent College at 6 p.m. at the Connor Convocation Center.
