Box Score (BLUFFTON, Ohio) – Junior forward Olivia Huber (Woodlawn, Ky./Newport Central Catholic) recorded a hat trick today (Saturday, September 20, 2014) to lead the eighth-ranked Thomas More College women's soccer team to a 7-0 shutout win over Bluffton University in a non-conference match at the Sears Complex in Bluffton, Ohio.
With the win the Saints improve to 8-0 and extend their shutout streak to seven matches. With the loss, the Beavers fall to 1-4.
Thomas More took an early 1-0 lead when sophomore midfielder Nicole Brown (Cincinnati, Ohio/Sycamore) scored unassisted at the 8:27 mark. Huber extended the Saints' lead to 2-0 at the 13:34 mark when she scored unassisted. The Saints increased the lead to 3-0 when Huber scored unassisted at the 24:04. Thomas More took a 4-0 lead at halftime when Huber scored off an assist by freshman defender Samantha Goodwin (Cincinnati, Ohio/Seton) at the 36:34 mark.
In the second half, freshman forward Julia Flagge-Echols (Colerain, Ohio/Colerain) increased the Saints' lead to 5-0 when she scored unassisted at the 52:36 mark. Thomas More took a 6-0 lead at the 58:24 mark when Brown scored unassisted. The Saints closed out the scoring at the 70:07 mark when freshman forward Abby Stadtmiller (Alexandria, Ky./Bishop Brossart) scored off a cross from Goodwin to extend the lead to 7-0.
Sophomore goalkeeper Megan Barton (Florence, Ky./Villa Madonna) played all 90 minutes and recorded one save in the shutout win.
Thomas More out-shot Bluffton, 26-1, including 19-1 on-goal and won the battle of corner kicks, 3-0.
The Saints return to action next Saturday (September 27) when it travels to Ada, Ohio to play Ohio Northern University in a 1 p.m. non-conference match.
