Box Score (BLUFFTON, Ohio) – The Thomas More College men's soccer team defeated Bluffton University, 3-1, today (Saturday, September 20, 2014) in a non-conference match at the Sears Complex in Bluffton, Ohio.
With the win the Saints improve to 6-2 and with the loss, the Beavers fall to 1-6.
Thomas More took a 1-0 lead at the 31:11 mark when sophomore forward Brian Runyon (Parkersburg, W.Va./Parkersburg) scored off an assist from senior midfielder Christopher Lehan (Cincinnati, Ohio/Oak Hills).
The Saints increased the lead to 2-0 when senior forward Kyle Troutman (Fairfield, Ohio/Fairfield) scored off a Lehan cross at the 48:27 mark. The Beavers cut the lead to 2-1 on a Jake Headings goal at the 76:73. Thomas More extended the lead to 3-1 at the 77:02 mark when freshman midfielder Eli Nienaber (LaGrange, Ky./Bishop Brossart) scored off an assist by sophomore defender Tim Knauer (Batavia, Ohio/Batavia).
Senior goalkeeper Matt Kees (Covington, Ky./Scott) played all 90 minutes and recorded two saves, while giving up one goal in the win.
Thomas More out-shot Bluffton, 18-4, including 6-3 on-goal and won the battle of corner kicks, 5-2.
The Saints return to action on Wednesday (September 24) when they host in-state rival Transylvania University at 4 p.m. at The Bank of Kentucky Field.
