(WAYNESBURG, Pa.) – Sophomore guard/forward Sydney Moss (St. Albans, W.Va./Boone County (Ky.)) tied the Thomas More College single-game scoring record with 40 points as she led the fifth-ranked Saints to a 95-63 win over Waynesburg University today (Saturday, February 1, 2014) in a Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) game at the Rudy Marisa Fieldhouse in Waynesburg, Pennsylvania.
With the win, the Saints remain undefeated at 19-0 overall and 12-0 in the PAC. With the loss, the Yellow Jackets fall to 10-9 overall and 8-4 in the PAC.
Moss tied the mark held by Kim Prewitt, who scored 40 points against Maryville (Tenn.) College on February 6, 1994.
Waynesburg jumped out to an early 10-6 lead when Rebecca Kerr made two free-throws with 15:19 to play in the first half. Thomas More answered with a 30-16 run to build a 36-26 lead with 1:02 to play in the half when junior forward Jenny Burgoyne (Cincinnati, Ohio/McAuley) made a jumper. The Yellow Jackets closed out the half on a 5-0 run to cut the lead to 36-31 at halftime when Hayden Giuliani made a lay-up with 14-seconds to play in the opening half.
In the second, half the Saints shot 66.7 percent from the field (22-of-33), including 100 percent from behind the three point arc (two-of-two) to out-score Waynesburg 59-32 and win the game, 95-63.
Moss finished the game with her eighth double-double of the season as she pulled down a game-high 14 rebounds to go with her 40 points. Joining her in double-figure scoring was Burgoyne with 21 points, junior guard Sydni Wainscott (Erlanger, Ky./Simon Kenton) with 12 points and senior guard Katie Kitchen (Alexandria, Ky./Campbell County) with 10 points. Wainscott, Kitchen and senior guard Devin Beasley (Burlington, Ky./Conner) led the team in assists with four each, while Wainscott led the team in steals with four.
The Saints return to action on Wednesday (February 5) when they travel to Beaver Falls, Pennsylvania to play Geneva College. The PAC game is scheduled to tip-off at 5:30 p.m. inside the Metheny Fieldhouse.
