Box Score (CRESTVIEW HILLS, KY.) – The Thomas More College volleyball team swept Geneva College, 3-0, tonight (Friday, October 31, 2014) in a battle of first places teams in the Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) at the Connor Convocation Center in Crestview Hills, Kentucky. The Saints won by the scores of 25-16, 25-20 and 25-16.
With the win, the Saints improve to 26-4 overall and 15-2 in the PAC. With a win over Westminster College tomorrow Thomas More would clinch at least a share of the PAC regular season title and the No. 1 seed in next week's PAC Championship Tournament. With the loss, the Golden Tornadoes fall to 22-9 overall and 15-3 in the PAC.
Freshman setter Jenna Fessler (Fort Mitchell, Ky./Beechwood) paced the offense with 35 assists, while senior defensive specialist Christina Newport-Brackett (Louisville, Ky./Seneca) led the team with a match-high four service aces. Senior outside hitter Holly Bronner (Reading, Ohio/Mount Notre Dame) led the offensive attack with 10 kills as junior middle hitter Jessica Knaley (Florence, Ky./St. Henry) added nine and junior outside hitter Stacy Howell (Cincinnati, Ohio/Glen Este) finished with eight.
Defensively, the Saints had three players with double-digit digs as senior defensive specialist Kelsey Castiglioni (Harrison Township, Mich./L'Anse Creuse) had 13, Newport-Brackett and sophomore defensive specialist Libbi Giuliano (Cincinnati, Ohio/McAuley) each finished with 10.
The Saints close out the regular season tomorrow as it hosts Westminster at 2 p.m. on Senior Day at the Connor Convocation Center. Thomas More will honor Castiglioni, Newport-Brackett, Bronner and senior outside hitter Felicity Britt (Alexandria, Ky./Bishop Brossart) prior to the match.
