Box Score 2 (LATROBE, Pa.) – The Thomas More College volleyball team earned two wins today (Saturday, October 25, 2014) in a tri-match at Saint Vincent College's Carey Center in Latrobe, Pennsylvania. The Saints defeated host Saint Vincent, 3-0, and Penn State University – Fayette, 3-1.
With the sweep, the Saints improve to 24-4 overall and 13-2 in the PAC.
In the first match of the day, Thomas More defeated Saint Vincent by the scores of 25-12, 25-23 and 25-22. The offense was led junior outside hitter Stacy Howell (Cincinnati, Ohio/Glen Este) and senior outside hitter Holly Bronner (Reading, Ohio/Mount Notre Dame) with 12 kills each. Freshman setter Jenna Fessler (Fort Mitchell, Ky./Beechwood) led the team in assists with 38, while senior defensive specialist Kelsey Castiglioni (Harrison Township, Mich./L'Anse Creuse) had a match-high three service aces.
Defensive, senior defensive specialist Christina Brackett-Newport (Louisville, Ky./Seneca) had a match-high 17 digs, while Bronner added 12 and Castiglioni had nine.
In the match against Penn State – Fayette, the Saints won by the score of 25-10, 25-16, 24-26 and 25-16. Three Saints had double-digit digs as Bronner had 12 and Howell and sophomore outside hitter Marisa Meyer (Cincinnati, Ohio/Seton) each had 10. Fessler paced the offense with 42 assists.
Newport-Brackett led the team in digs with 27, while Bronner added 16.
Thomas More returns to action on Tuesday (October 28) when it hosts Grove City College at 6 p.m. at the Connor Convocation Center in Crestview Hills, Kentucky.
