Saints Impeach Presidents, 6-0

(WASHINGTON, Pa.) – The Thomas More College men's soccer team posted its fifth-straight shutout as it defeated Washington & Jefferson College, 6-0, tonight (Wednesday, October 22, 2014) in a Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) match at Alexandre Stadium in Washington, Pennsylvania.

With the win, the Saints improve to 12-2-1 overall and 4-0-1 in the PAC.  With the loss, the Presidents fall to 5-10-0 overall and 2-4-0 in the PAC.

Thomas More took a 1-0 lead at the 7:08 mark when sophomore defender Tim Knauer (Batavia, Ohio/Batavia) scored off a cross from junior midfielder Austin Juniet (Fort Thomas, Ky./Newport Central Catholic),  The Saints extended the lead to 2-0 at halftime when senior forward Jake Plummer (North Olmsted, Ohio/Hearts of Jesus Christ-Corpus Christi) connected on a penalty kick at the 21:15 mark.

Knauer gave the Saints a 3-0 at the 49:42 mark when he scored off a double assist from senior defender Jack Little (Versailles, Ky./Woodford County) and senior midfielder Christopher Lehan (Cincinnati, Ohio/Oak Hills).  The Saints extended the lead to 4-0 when sophomore midfielder RJ Best (Lorton, Va./South County Secondary) scored unassisted at the 60:00 mark.  Thomas More increased the lead to 5-0 at the 60:31 mark when sophomore forward Brian Runyon (Parkersburg, W.Va./Parkersburg) scored off a cross from senior midfielder Jonah Ritter (Dayton, Ohio/Carroll).  The Saints closed out the scoring at the 78:31 mark when freshman midfielder Eli Nienaber (LaGrange, Ky./Bishop Brossart) found the back of the net off an assist from Juniet for the final score of 6-0.

Senior goalkeeper Matt Kees (Covington, Ky./Scott) earned the shutout win as he played all 90 minutes and recorded one save.

 Thomas More out-shot Washington & Jefferson 23-6, including 14-1 on-goal and won the battle of corner kicks, 10-3.

The Saints return to action on Sunday (October 26) when they host Thiel College at 1 p.m. at The Bank of Kentucky Field in Crestview Hills, Kentucky.
