Box Score 2 (NEW WILMINGTON, Pa.) – The Thomas More College volleyball defeated Thiel College and Westminster College today (Saturday, October 18, 2014) in a pair of Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) matches played in Greenville, Pennsylvania and New Wilmington, Pennsylvania. The Saints defeated Thiel, 3-0, and Westminster, 3-1.
With the two wins, the Saints improve to 21-3 overall and 11-1 in the PAC.
In the first match of the day, Thomas More defeated the Tomcats by the scores of 25-20, 25-20 and 25-20. Freshman setter Jenna Fessler (Fort Mitchell, Ky./Beechwood) paced the offense with 35 assists. Junior outside hitter Stacy Howell (Cincinnati, Ohio/Glen Este) led the team in kills with 12, while senior outside hitter Felicity Britt (Alexandria, Ky./Bishop Brossart) finished with 11. Senior defensive specialist Kelsey Castiglioni (Harrison Township, Mich./L'Anse Creuse) led the team in service aces with three.
Four Saints finished with double-digit digs as Castiglioni had 27, senior outside hitter Holly Bronner (Reading, Ohio/Mount Notre Dame) had 15, senior defensive specialist Christina Newport-Brackett (Louisville, Ky./Seneca) finished with 13 and sophomore defensive specialist Libbi Giuliano (Cincinnati, Ohio/McAuley) had 10.
In the second match of the day, the Saints defeated the Titans by the scores of 25-15, 24-26, 25-23 and 25-19. Fessler finished the match with 47 assists. Three Saints had double-digit kills as Howell had 13, sophomore middle hitter Alexis Bierbaum (Cincinnati, Ohio/McAuley) had 12 and Bronner had 11. Castiglioni and Bronner each had two service aces.
Defensively, Castiglioni had 24 digs, Newport-Brackett had 14 digs and Giuliano had 12 digs.
The Saints return to action tomorrow (Sunday, October 19) when they travel to Washington, Pennsylvania to play Washington & Jefferson College at 12 p.m. inside the Henry Center.
