Box Score 2 (GROVE CITY, Pa.) – The Thomas More College volleyball team defeated Grove City College and Washington & Jefferson College, 3-0, today (Saturday, October 11, 2014) in a Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) tri-match at Grove City Arena in Grove City, Pennsylvania.
With the two wins, the Saints improve to 19-3 overall and 9-1 in the PAC.
Thomas More defeated the host Wolverines in the first match by the scores of 25-22, 25-21 and 25-22. Junior middle hitter Jessica Knaley (Florence, Ky./St. Henry) led the team in kills with nine, while sophomore outside hitter Marisa Meyer (Cincinnati, Ohio/Seton) and junior outside hitter Stacy Howell (Cincinnati, Ohio/Glen Este) each added six kills. Senior outside hitter Holly Bronner (Reading, Ohio/Mount Notre Dame) had a team-high 16 assists and sophomore setter Nicci Stemler (North Bend, Ohio/Seton) added 10.
Three Saints finished with double-digit digs as senior defensive specialist Kelsey Castiglioni (Harrison Township, Mich./L'Anse Creuse) had 19, Stemler finished with 13 and sophomore defensive specialist Libbi Giuliano (Cincinnati, Ohio/McAuley) added 10.
Thomas More defeated Washington & Jefferson by the scores of 25-19, 25-23 and 25-23 in the second match of the day. Meyer had team-high eight kills, while Howell and senior outside hitter Felicity Britt (Alexandria, Ky./Bishop Brossart) each finished with six. Bronner led the team in assists with 17, while Stemler added 12.
Castiglioni led the Saints' defensive effort with 17 digs, while Giuliano finished with 11.
Thomas More returns to action next Saturday (October 18) when it plays Thiel College at 11 a.m. in Greenville, Pennsylvania and Westminster College at 5 p.m. in New Wilmington, Pennsylvania.
