(CRESTVIEW HILLS, Ky.) - Senior guard Katie Kitchen (Alexandria, Ky./Campbell County) scored her 1,000th career point tonight (Wednesday, January 8, 2014) and the sixth-ranked Thomas More College women's basketball team defeated Geneva College, 94-46, in a Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) game at the Connor Convocation Center in Crestview Hills, Kentucky.
With the win, the Saints remain undefeated at 12-0 overall and 5-0 in the PAC. With the loss, the Golden Tornadoes fall to 1-10 overall and 0-5 in the PAC.
In the first half, the Saints shot 55.3 percent from the field (21-of-38), including 38.5 percent from behind the arc (five-of-13) and 100 percent shooting from the free-throw line (six-of-six) to build a 53-16 lead at halftime.
With 3:50 to play in the opening half, Kitchen scored on a lay-up to score her 1,000th career points and become only the 15th player in Thomas More women's basketball history to reach that milestone.
The Saints opened the second half by scoring the first 20 points and take their biggest lead of the game at 73-16 when freshman guard Kelly McDonald (Cincinnati, Ohio/Sycamore) made a three-pointer with 14:30 to play in the game. Geneva closed the game on a 30-21 run, but it wasn't enough as Thomas More won the game, 94-46.
Thomas More finished the game by shooting 50.6 percent from the field (39-of-77) and forced 32 turnovers, while dishing out 30 assists.
Sophomore guard/forward Sydney Moss (St. Albans, W.Va./Boone County (Ky.) recorded her sixth double-double of the season as she scored a game-high 23 points and pulled down a game-high 11 rebounds in 21 minutes of action. Kitchen joined her in double-figure scoring as she had 10 points, while sophomore guard Olivia Huber (Woodlawn, Ky./Newport Central Catholic) and junior guard Sydni Wainscott (Erlanger, Ky./Simon Kenton) both just missed double-figure scoring with nine points each. Senior guard Devin Beasley (Burlington, Ky./Conner) led the team in assists with 10, while Moss added six and Kitchen led the team in steals with six.
The Saints return to action on Saturday (January 11) when they host Thiel College at 1 p.m. at the Connor Convocation Center.
