Box Score 2 (CINCINNATI, Ohio) - The Thomas More College volleyball team split two mtches today (Saturday, September 7, 2013) on the second day of the Charlie Wrublewski Tournament hosted by the College of Mount St. Joseph at the Harrington Center in Cincinnati, Ohio. The Saints fell, 3-0, to DePauw University in the opening match, but defeated Heidelberg University, 3-2 in the second match.
With the split, the Saints are now 4-2 on the season.
Thomas More fell in the first match of the day to DePauw by the scores of 25-22, 25-18 and 25-13. The Saints were offensively by junior outside hitter Felicity Britt (Alexandria, Ky./Bishop Brossart) and freshman outside hitter Sydney Bragg (Huron, Ohio/Huron) with five kills each and sophomore setter Becca Kuhn (Cincinnati, Ohio/Oak Hills) with 21 assists.
Junior defensive specialist Kelsey Castiglioni (Harrison Township, Mich./L'Anse Creuse) led the Saints defense with 17 digs. Bragg added 13 digs, Kuhn had eight digs senior defensive specialist Brittany Rohrkasse (Mason, Ohio/Mount Notre Dame) finished with seven digs.
In the second match of the day, the Saints defeated Heidelberg by the scores of 20-25, 25-22, 19-25, 25-21 and 15-5. Junior outside hitter Holly Bronner (Reading, Ohio/Mount Notre Dame) finished the match with double-double as she had a team-high 19 kills and 20 digs. Two other Saints finished with double-digit kills as Howell had 14 and sophomore middle hitter Jessica Knaley (Florence, Ky./St. Henry) had 10. Kuhn finished the match with 56 assists.
Joining Bronner with double-digit digs was Castiglioni with a team-high 31 and Rohrkasse with 13.
At the conclusion of the tournament Castiglioni and Rohrkasse were named to the All-Tournament team.
The Saints return to action on Wednesday (September 11) when they travel to Bluffton, Ohio to play Bluffton University. The non-conference match is scheduled for 7 p.m.
