Box Score 2 (LATROBE, Pa.) - The Thomas More College volleyball team defeated Saint Vincent College, 3-0, and Westminster College, 3-1, today (Saturday, September 14, 2013) in a Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) tri-match in Latrobe, Pennsylvania.
With the sweep, the Saints improve to 7-3 and 2-1 in the PAC.
In the first match of the day, the Saints defeated the host Bearcats by the scores of 25-19, 25-19 and 25-23. Sophomore outside hitter Stacy Howell (Cincinnati, Ohio/Glen Este) led the team in kills with 10, while junior outside hitter Holly Bronner (Reading, Ohio/Mount Notre Dame) added nine kills. Sophomore setter Becca Kuhn (Cincinnati, Ohio/Oak Hills) led the team in assists with 23. Bronner and sophomore middle hitter Jessica Knaley (Florence, Ky./St. Henry) led the team in services aces as they both had two.
Defensively, the Saints were led by junior defensive specialist Kelsey Castiglioni (Harrison Township, Mich./L'Anse), who had 20 digs. Freshman outside hitter Sydney Bragg (Huron, Ohio/Huron) added 14 digs, while Knaley led the team in blocks with four.
The Saints won the second match of the day against Westminster by the scores of 25-23, 21-25, 25-20 and 25-15. Four Saints had double-digit kills as Howell had 15 and Bronner, Knaley and junior outside hitter Felicity Britt (Alexandria, Ky./Bishop Brossart) each had 11. Kuhn led the team in assists with 42.
Three Saints had double-digit digs as Castiglioni had 22, Bronner had 20 and senior defensive specialist Brittany Rohrkasse (Mason, Ohio/Mount Notre Dame) had 13.
Thomas More is idle until next Sunday (September 22) when it hosts Washington & Jefferson College in its home opener. The PAC match is scheduled for 12 p.m. at the Connor Convocation Center.
