Box Score (CRESTVIEW HILLS, Ky.) - The 14th-ranked Thomas More College women's soccer team fell, 2-1, to Capital University in double overtime today (Wednesday, September 11, 2013) in a non-conference match at The Bank of Kentucky Field in Crestview Hills, Kentucky.
With the loss, the Saints fall to 3-1 and with the win, the Crusaders improve to 3-1-1.
Thomas More took a 1-0 lead at the 33:15 mark when senior forward Courtney Clark (Burlington, Ky./Notre Dame Academy) scored on a penalty kick. Capital tied the match at 1-1 when Monique Hanayik scored unassisted at the 35:06 mark.
In the second overtime period, Hilary Ells scored off a rebound at the 108:00 mark to give the Crusaders the 2-1 win.
Freshman goalkeeper Megan Barton (Florence, Ky./Villa Madonna) played the first 45 minutes and allowed one goal, while recording three saves. Freshman goalkeeper Christy Smith (Washington Courthouse, Ohio/Washington) played the final 63 minutes and allowed one goal and recorded one save.
Thomas More out-shot the Crusaders, 15-13, and won the battle of corner kicks, 5-3.
The Saints return to action on Sunday (September 15) when they travel to North Manchester, Indiana to play Manchester University at 1 p.m.
