Box Score (BETHANY, W.Va.) - The 22nd-ranked Thomas More College women's soccer team defeated Bethany College, 5-0, today (Saturday, October 5, 2013) in both teams' Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) opener at Hoag Field in Bethany, West Virginia.
With the win, the Saints improve to 7-1-2 overall and 1-0 PAC and with the loss, the Bison fall to 2-9 and 0-1 PAC.
Thomas More took an early 1-0 lead when senior midfielder Emily Sanker (Alexandria, Ky./Bishop Brossart) scored off an assist from sophomore forward Olivia Huber (Woodlawn, Ky./Newport Central Catholic) at the 27:08 mark. The Saints increased the lead to 2-0 at the 37:34 mark when freshman forward Elise Duggins (Union, Ky./Ryle) scored from the top of the box off a cross from freshman midfielder Taylor Robinson (Alexandria, Ky./Campbell County).
Senior forward Courtney Clark (Burlington, Ky./Notre Dame Academy) extend the Saints' lead to 3-0 when she scored off a Robinson assist at the 55:05 mark. Thomas More increased the lead to 4-0 at the 55:06 mark when freshman midfielder Madison Romard (Cincinnati, Ohio/McAuley) found the back of the net of an assist from senior midfielder Kirstie Reilman (Cincinnati, Ohio/McAuley). Huber closed out the scoring at the 64:02 mark when she scored off a cross from Clark at the 64:02 mark for the final score of 5-0.
Freshman goalkeeper Megan Barton (Florence, Ky./Villa Madona) played all 90 minutes and recorded one save in the shutout win.
Thomas More out-shot Bethany, 33-1, including 18-1 on-goal and won the battle of corner kicks, 9-1.
The Saints return to action on Wednesday (October 9) when they host Geneva College at 4 p.m. at The Bank of Kentucky Field in Crestview Hills, Kentucky.
