Box Score (CRESTVIEW HILLS, Ky.) - The Thomas More College volleyball team won the first six points and never looked back tonight (Wednesday, September 5, 2012) as it defeated Chatham University, 3-0, in its Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) opener at the Connor Convocation Center in Crestview Hills, Kentucky.
With the win, the Saints improve to 3-3 overall and 1-0 in the PAC. With the loss, the Cougars fall to 0-1 overall and 0-1 in the PAC.
The Saints won the match by the scores of 25-6, 25-13 and 25-6. The offense was led by freshman middle hitter Jessica Knaley (Florence, Ky./St. Henry), who had 12 kills. Sophomore right side/outside hitter Felicity Britt (Alexandria, Ky./Bishop Brossart) added six kills, while right side/middle hitter Aprill Jackson (Eaton, Ohio/Eaton) and senior outside hitter Hanna Lietz (Cincinnati, Ohio/Seton) finished with five and four kills respectively. Freshman setter Natalie Lietz (Cincinnati, Ohio/Seton) led the team in assists with 17, while sophomore defensive specialist Kelsey Castiglioni (Harrison Township, Mich./L'Anse Cruese) led the team in five service aces.
Defensively, the Saints were led by Castiglioni led the team in digs with seven and Knaley led the team in blocks with two solo blocks.
Thomas More returns to action this weekend as it travels to Cincinnati, Ohio to play in the Third Annual Charlie Wrublewski Invitational host by the College of Mount St. Joseph. The Saints open the tournament on Friday (September 7) when plays Heidelberg University at 11:30 a.m. and Maryville (Tenn.) College at 5:30 p.m. On Saturday (September 8) they will play Birmingham Southern University at 11 a.m., followed by a 5 p.m. match against the host Lions.
