Box Score 2 (WASHINGTON, Pa.) - The Thomas More College volleyball team defeated Washington & Jefferson College, 3-0, and Westminster College, 3-1, today (Saturday, September 22, 2012) in a Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) tri-match in Washington, Pennsylvania.
With the sweep, the Saints improve to 11-4 overall and 4-0 in the PAC.
In the first match of the day, the Saints defeated host W&J by the scores of 25-21, 25-7 and 25-15. The Saint had two players in double-digit kills as junior middle hitter Tyler Deaton (Lexington, Ky./Lexington Catholic) and freshman middle hitter Jessica Knaley (Florence, Ky./St. Henry) each had 11. Senior setter Tori Verville (Edgewood, Ky./Holy Cross) led the team in assists with 20, while freshman setter Natalie Lietz (Cincinnati, Ohio/Seton) added 11 and junior defensive specialist Brittany Rohrkasse (Mason, Ohio/Mount Notre Dame) led the team in aces with three.
Defensively, the Saints were led by sophomore defensive Kelsey Castiglioni (Harrison Township, Mich./L'Anse Cruese) with 18 digs, while sophomore defensive specialist Christina Brackett-Newport (Louisville, Ky./Seneca) added nine and Rohrkasse added eight.
The Saints won the second match of the day against Westminster by the scores of 28-26, 22-25, 25-11 and 25-15. Senior outside hitter Hanna Lietz (Cincinnati, Ohio/Seton) led the team in kills with 16, while sophomore outside hitter Karsen Cronin (Fairfield, Ohio/Fairfield) added 12. Verville led the team in assists with 44.
On the defensive side, four Saints had double-digit digs as Castiglioni had 24, Brackett-Newport had 14, Verville had 14 and Rohrkasse had 10.
Thomas More returns to action on Friday (September 28) when it hosts Waynesburg University at 6 p.m. at the Connor Convocation Center.
