Box Score 2 (CRESTVIEW HILLS, Ky.) - The Thomas More College volleyball team swept both Washington & Jefferson College and Franklin College today (Saturday, September 15, 2012) in a tri-match at the Connor Convocation Center in Crestview Hills, Kentucky.
With the pair of wins the Saints improve to 9-4 overall and with the win over W&J, the Saints improve to 2-0 in the Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC).
The Saints defeated W&J in the first match of the day by the scores of 25-11, 25-14 and 25-14. Freshman middle hitter Jessica Knaley (Florence, Ky./St. Henry) led the offense with 11 kills, while senior outside hitter Hanna Lietz (Cincinnati, Ohio/Seton) added five. Senior setter Tori Verville (Edgewood, Ky./Holy Cross) led the team in assists with 22, while sophomore outside hitter Karsen Cronin (Fairfield, Ohio/Fairfield) led the team in service aces with four.
Defensively, the Saints were led by sophomore defensive specialist Kelsey Castiglioni (Harrison Township, Mich./L'Anse Creuse), who had 19 digs, while junior defensive specialist Brittany Rohrkasse (Mason, Ohio/Mount Notre Dame) finished with seven.
In the final match of the day, the Saints defeated Franklin by the scores of 25-15, 25-14 and 25-14. Knaley again led the team in kills with seven, while Cronin added six. Verville finished the match with 23 assists and Knaley had a team-high three service aces.
On the defensive side of net, the Saints were led by Castiglioni with 15 digs and sophomore defensive specialist Christina Brackett-Newport (Louisville, Ky./Seneca) with nine digs.
The Saints return to action next Saturday (September 22) when they travel to Washington, Pennsylvania for a PAC tri-match. The Saints will play host W&J at 11 a.m. and Waynesburg University at 1 p.m.
