Box Score 2 (COLUMBUS, Ohio) - The Thomas More College volleyball team split two matches today (Saturday, September 1, 2012) on the second day of the Capital University/Otterbein University Invitational at The Capital Center in Columbus, Ohio. The Saints swept host Capital, 3-0, in the first match, but fell, 3-1, to Transylvania University in the second match.
With the split, the Saints are now 1-3 on the season.
At the end of the tournament, sophomore defensive specialist Kelsey Castiglioni (Harrison Township, Mich./L'Anse Creuse) was named to the All-Tournament Team.
In the first match of the day, the Saints defeated Capital by the scores of 26-24, 25-23 and 25-22. Thomas More was led offensively by freshman middle hitter Jessica Knaley (Florence, Ky./St. Henry) and sophomore outside hitter/right side Felicity Britt (Alexandria, Ky./Bishop Brossart), who each had 10 kills. Senior setter Tori Verville (Edgewood, Ky./Holy Cross) had a team-high 34 assists, while Catiglioni and senior outside hitter Hannah Lietz (Cincinnati, Ohio/Seton) each had two service aces.
Defensively, the Saints were led by Castiglioni with 23 digs, while sophomore defensive specialist Christina Brackett-Newport (Louisville, Ky./Seneca) added 18 and Verville added 12.
In the second match of the day, Thomas More fell to Transylvania by the scores of 25-23, 16-25, 25-22 and 25-18. No stats have been made public for this match.
The Saints return to action on Tuesday (September 4) when they host Hanover College in their home-opener at 7 p.m. at the Connor Convocation Center in Crestview Hills, Kentucky.
