Box Score (CRESTVIEW HILLS, Ky.) - The top-seeded Thomas More College volleyball team won the program's fourth Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) Championship as it defeated second-seeded Thiel College, 3-0, today (Saturday, November 3, 2012) in the PAC Tournament championship match at Connor Convocation Center in Crestview Hills, Kentucky. The Saints won by the scores of 25-22, 25-19 and 26-24.
With the win, the Saints improve to 26-5 and earn the PAC's automatic bid to the NCAA Division III Championship tournament. It will be the Saints' 11 appearance in the NCAA Championship since joining the NCAA in 1991. The tournament field and brackets will be released on the NCAA's championship website (www.ncaa.com) at 11 a.m. on Monday (November 5). With the loss, the Tomcats fall to 23-8.
Sophomore outside hitter Felicity Britt (Alexandria, Ky./Bishop Brossart) led the Saints' offensive attack with 10 kills, while senior outside hitter Hanna Lietz (Cincinnati, Ohio/Seton) added nine kills and freshman outside hitter Jessica Knaley (Florence, Ky./St. Henry) and freshman outside hitter Stacy Howell (Cincinnati, Ohio/Glen Este) each finished with eight kills. The offense was paced by senior setter Tori Verville (Edgewood, Ky./Holy Cross) with 38 set assists.
Defensively, the Saints had four players with double-digit digs as sophomore defensive specialist Kelsey Castiglioni (Harrison Township, Mich./L'Anse Creuse) had 21, Lietz had 16, Verville had 14 and junior defensive specialist Brittany Rohrkasse (Mason, Ohio/Mount Notre Dame) finished with 12. Knaley led the Saints at the net as she had one block solo and one block assist.
