Box Score (CRESTVIEW HILLS, Ky.) - The No. 22-ranked (NSCAA/Continental Tire Top-25) Thomas More College men's soccer team fell, 4-3, to No. 17-ranked (D3soccer.com Top-25) in double overtime today (Tuesday, September 27, 2011) in a non-conference match at The Bank of Kentucky Field in Crestview Hills, Kentucky.
With the loss, the Saints fall to 6-1-1 overall and with the win, the Polar Bears improved to 8-2-1.
Thomas More took an early 1-0 lead when senior midfielder Alex Oeswein (Louisville, Ky./DuPont Manual) scored on a free kick at the 14:35 mark. The Saints increased the lead to 2-0 at halftime when Oeswein scored off an assist from senior defender Nick Brohas (Centerville, Ohio/Centerville) at the 37:40 mark.
Ohio Northern cut the lead to 2-1 at the 76:01 mark when Cameron Johnson scored off a cross from Greg Stawicki. Oeswein completed a hat trick at the 79:43 mark to give the Saints a 3-1 lead when he scored off a pass from freshman forward Alec Robbins (Taylor Mill, Ky./Scott). ONU cut the lead to 3-2 when Abrim Mueller scored at the 84:03 mark. Mueller tied the match at 3-3 when he found the back of the net at the 89:52 mark.
In the second overtime period, Nathan Bascom scored the game-winning goal at the 102:15 mark off an assist from Mike Girardot.
Senior goalkeeper Zack Lawson (Frankfort, Ky./Frankfort) played all 102:15 in goal and suffered his first loss of the season as he allowed four goals and recorded 13 saves.
Ohio Northern out-shot the Saints, 36-11, and won the battle of corner kicks, 14-5.
The Saints start Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) play on Saturday (October 1) when they host Thiel College at 3 p.m. at The Bank of Kentucky Field in Crestview Hills, Kentucky.
