Thomas More Splits Two Matches on Second Day of Charlie Wrublewski Tournament

(CINCINNATI, Ohio) - The Thomas More College volleyball team split two matches today (Saturday, September 10, 2011) at the Charlie Wrublewski Tournament hosted by the College of Mount St. Joseph in Cincinnati, Ohio as the Saints defeated Mount St. Joseph, 3-0, but fell, 3-0, to third-ranked Wittenberg University.

With the split, the Saints are now 3-5 on the season.

Thomas More won the match against MSJ by the scores of 27-25, 25-18 and 25-18.  The Saints were led offensively by freshman Karsen Cronin (Fairfield, Ohio/Fairfield), freshman middle hitter Connie Schulte (Ottawa, Ohio/Pandora-Gilboa)  and sophomore middle hitter Tyler Deaton (Lexington, Ky./Lexington Catholic) with eight kills each.  Senior middle blocker Katie Sullivan (Cincinnati, Ohio/Seton) and freshman outside hitter Felicity Britt (Alexandria, Ky./Bishop Brossart) each added six kills.  Senior setter Michelle Clifford (Cincinnati, Ohio/McAuley) led the team in assitss with 32, while freshman defensive specialist Kelsey Castiglioni (Harrison Township, Mich./L'Anse Creuse) led the team in digs with 23.  Freshman defensive specialist Christina Brackett (Louisville, Ky./Seneca) added 16 digs, while Felicity added 10.

Wittenberg won the second match by the scores of 25-18, 25-10 and 25-18.  The Saints were led in kills by Sullivan and Deaton with six each and Schulte with five.  The team was led in digs by Castiglioni with 15, junior setter Tori Verville (Edgewood, Ky./Holy Cross) with 10 and Brackett with nine.

The Saints close-out the non-conference portion of their schedule on Tuesday (September 13) when they travel to Bluffton, Ohio for a 7 p.m. match with Bluffton University.
