Box Score (CRESTVIEW HILLS, Ky.) - The 22nd-ranked and top-seeded Thomas More College men's soccer team defeated fourth-seeded Bethany College, 3-1, today (Wednesday, November 2, 2011) in a Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) Championship Tournament semifinal match at The Bank of Kentucky Field in Crestview Hills, Kentucky.
With the win, the Saints improve to 15-1-1 and advance to the championship match of the PAC Tournament, where they will host either second-seeded Geneva College or third-seeded Grove City College on Friday (November 4) at a time to be announced Thursday morning on the Thomas More athletic website. With the loss, the Bison end the season at 6-12.
Thomas More took a 1-0 lead at the 62:40 mark when senior midfielder Alex Oeswein (Louisville, Ky./DuPont Manual) scored on a free kick. Bethany tied the match at 1-1 when Arkangelo James scored at the 63:49 mark. Thomas More retook the lead at 2-1 at the 65:31 mark when senior midfielder Alex Bertke (Cincinnati, Ohio/Elder) scored on an assist from Oeswein. The Saints added an insurance goal at the 74:41 when freshman midfielder Dexter Morgan (Covington, Ky./Scott) scored on a double assist from Oeswein and senior forward Ricky Barria (Erlanger, Ky./Dixie Heights) final score of 3-1.
Senior goalkeeper Zack Lawson (Frankfort, Ky./Frankfort) earned the win as he played all 90 minutes and recorded one save.
Thomas More out-shot the Bison, 25-6, including 13-2 on-goal and won the battle of corner kicks, 9-2.
